Falkville Edward Lavon Jones, 98, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, October 28, 2018. He was born October 6, 1920, in Morgan County to Edward Jerome Jones and Daisy Mae Parker Jones . He was preceded in death by his wife of 76 years, Wilda Owen Jones, a sister: Pauline Yates, his parents and a son-in-law: Robert Hall.
Survivors include: One Son: Rodney Jones, One Daughter: Vondalyn Hall, Five Grandchildren: Alexis Jones, Sam Jones, Betsy Hall Ledoux (Nick), Amelia Hall Stehouwer (Seth) and Katie Hall Hackleman (Jon), Six Great Grandchildren, and Special Niece: Donna Yates McAnnally. A great optimist, Lavon Jones was known for his pride in family and his love of history and geneology. He was also respected for his ability to manage his res by exercising both wisdom and discipline.
His chosen profession, farming, both row crops and cattle, brought him much joy throughout his life. In addition, he worked at Wolverine Tube for over 30 years where he met and made many friends. During World War II, he served in the Merchant Marines, travelling all over the world.
During this time, he was selected as the Ship’s carpenter and later in life excelled in woodworking by handcrafting furniture. As an active member of Fairview Church of God, he considered his greatest accomplishment, bringing Rev. Milan Dekich to the Church as pastor, when he was chair of the Pulpit Committee.
Mr. Jones rarely met a stranger. When he did, he struck up a conversation and quickly identified and common friend or ancestor. His memory as well as his love of people, from all walks of life, was legendary.
During Mr. Jones retirement, he and his wife, Wilda, enjoyed travelling throughout the United States. They particularly enjoyed trips to the Smokey Mountains. For over 10 years until Lavon was 91, he cared for his wife who had Alzheimers.
Mr. Jones’ children and grandchildren will remember him as a man of abiding faith and unconditional love. His ability to find contentment in all things and laugh freely will also be remembered. The Celebration of Mr. Jones life will be on Thursday, November 1, 2018, at 3:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home in Hartselle, followed by interment in Jones Cemetery.
Family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Thursday prior to the funeral service. Special thanks are extended to caregivers: Lisa Roberson, Gretchen Kent Taylor, Jessica Roberson, Cesaly Grey, and Cynthia Roberson for their unfaltering commitment, compassionate care and sacrifice beyond the call of duty. The family is also grateful to the Hospice of North Alabama.
