Edward’s Obituary Edward Lee Rader Sr., 79, of Harrisonburg, VA, peacefully passed away at his home on May 8, 2019 after a long illness. He was born August 27, 1939 in Sugar Grove, WV and was a son of the late Edward H. Rader and Evelyn P. Rader. Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly H. Rader, on April 5, 1997.

He was also preceded in death by brothers Phillip Rader of Moyers, WV and Jesse Rader of Harrisonburg, VA. He was a member of Muhlenberg Lutheran Church where he regularly attended services until illness made it too difficult, but he still supported the church and was a voracious reader of the Bible. He retired from Pilgrim’s Pride Hatchery where he enjoyed many years of employment and friendships.

Surviving are two sons, Edward L. Rader, Jr. and Machelle, of Harrisonburg, Joseph A. Rader and wife, Nancy, of Stuarts Draft and a daughter, Caroline Rader Spiers and husband, Rick, of McGaheysville. Grandchildren, Edward L. Rader III, Harrisonburg, Hilary Rader Buckless and husband Brian, Timberville, Adam Spiers and wife Courtney, McGaheysville, Jared Spiers and wife Katherine, McGuire Air Force Base, NJ, Joseph C. Rader and fiancé Dana Bargh, Stuarts Draft and Jon Paul Rader, Stuarts Draft. He is also survived by five great grandchildren, Emmett, Owen, Everett, Phoebe, and Bryce Spiers.

A memorial service will be held at East Lawn Mausoleum in Harrisonburg on May 11 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, one hour prior to the service. Pastors Lauren Miller and K. Roy Nilsen will conduct the service.

The family expresses appreciation for the outstanding care provided by the Sentara Hospice Team and home caregivers Lydia Showalter and Karen Wimer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Edward for support of the ministry for Muhlenberg Lutheran Church at 281 East Market Street, Harrisonburg, VA.
