Obituary for Edward R. (Hoppy) Hopstetter Edward Russell “Hoppy” Hopstetter was born in Buchtel, Ohio on August 13, 1932. He grew up to become an avid Ohio State fan. After joining the Navy, he was stationed in Kingsville, Texas where he met the love of his life, the late Verna Mae Michalk.

They married in 1956 and returned to Ohio. He and his young family moved back to Texas in 1968, where he worked as a machinist for Southwest Research Institute. During his 29 year career there, Hoppy made many lifelong friends.

He was an extremely devoted family man who acted as adopted father and grandfather to many. On Aug 29, at the age of 86, he lost his battle with dementia. He is survived by his two daughters, Susan Cuellar (husband Gilbert) and Julie Escalera, grandchildren Nina Burkart (husband Robert) Greg (fiancee Alexis Ruiz), Jeremy, Garrett (fiancee Stephanie Ybarra).
