Visiting Hours: Sunday, May 19th, 1-4 p.m. at our West Sayville funeral home. Committal with Military Honors: Monday, May 20th, 10 a.m. at Calverton National Cemetery. Edward “Woody” Chmiel, 82, of Sayville, LI, died on Wednesday, May 15, 2019.

Born and raised in Queens, Woody served in the US Army before returning to New York and settling in the Sayville area. He was an avid fisherman and a longtime member of the Long Island Beach Buggy Association. Mr. Chmiel is survived by his two sons, Chip of Oakdale and Peter of East Hampton, his three grandchildren, Christi, Jenney and Michele, three great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Kayla and Rocky, as well as his brother, Robert Chmiel of Miller Place.

He was predeceased by his wife Diane in 1998.
