Edwards B. “Eddie” Ross, 91 Edwards Beaumont “Eddie” Ross, 91, of Pembroke, passed away after a brief illness on Friday, October 5, 2018 at the Hospice House in Concord, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 24, 1927 in Stoneham, MA, he was the son of the late Leroy E. and Estelle (Beckett) Ross. Eddie enlisted in the United States Marine Corps immediately following his high school graduation from Pembroke Academy in 1945 and proudly served his country during WWII.
Following an honorable discharge, Eddie worked for the Merrimack Electrotyping Corporation for 26 years and retired 22 years later as a certified Water Treatment Plant Operator for the City of Concord. He was a 70-year member, and Past Master, of the Masonic Jewell Lodge in Suncook. He and his wife Marilyn were very active volunteers with their church, First Congregational Church of Pembroke and with Breathe New Hampshire, where they were named Volunteers of the Year in 2013.
He also enjoyed spending time at camp with his family on Great East Lake and Lake Francis and hunting with family and friends. Never one to sit around, he was also a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club and the 4,000-Footer Club and climbed all 48 mountains in NH alongside his wife. Traveling extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and the Middle East were among some of his adventures.
Eddie was active in the Concord and Suncook Men’s Softball Leagues for many years, playing competitively until he was 57. As far as his family was concerned, no one could run faster than him. Eddie enjoyed attending UNH Hockey games as well as Pembroke Academy sporting events with his family over the years.
He was an avid fan of all Boston professional sports teams, especially the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots, and the Boston Celtics. Eddie and Marilyn also enjoyed attending the NH Highland Games every year. Besides his parents, Eddie was predeceased by his siblings, Leroy E. Ross, Shirley Barber and Douglas H. Ross, his nephew Leroy E. Ross, as well as his brother-in-law Philip Good.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 71 years, Marilyn B. (Good) Ross of Pembroke; sons, Douglas B. Ross and his wife Sheila of Concord and James L. Ross and his wife Laura of Pembroke; grandchildren, Charity Ross and her partner Kevin Shields of Concord, Amy Moore and her husband Marc of Concord, Nicholas Karwocki and his wife Danielle of Boscawen and Jennifer Karwocki and her partner Lolay Catudal of Belmont; great grandchildren, Hannah, Douglas, Jaxon, Emilee, Madeline, Damon and Jocelyn; his sister-in-law, Lorraine Good of Pembroke; nephews, Jeffrey Good, John Good, Emmett Ross and Norman Ross as well as numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins. The family wishes to thank the caring staffs of Concord Hospital and the Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association’s Hospice House. Calling Hours will be held on Sunday, October 14 from 2 to 5 PM in the Still Oaks Funeral and Memorial Home, 1217 Suncook Valley Highway in Epsom.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 15 at 10 AM in the Pembroke Congregational Church, 301 Pembroke Street in Pembroke. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
