On the afternoon of Monday, April 29, 2019, Mrs. Eileen Muriel Rogers completed her time here on earth and started her long-awaited life in heaven, a journey she has prepared for her entire life. Eileen was born on June 28, 1938 in Springfield, MA to Charles G. and Yvette L. (Babineau) Feeney. She graduated from Putnam Academy and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing.
She moved to Muskegon, MI in 1966. While living in Muskegon, Eileen raised three sons while working at Hackley, Mercy and General Hospitals. She also spent time working for local ambulance services and many of the Skilled Nursing Facilities in town.
Eileen also spent time teaching nurse aids at Muskegon Community College. In 1982, Eileen opened and ran the Bethany Home, an Adult Foster Care Home where she provided wonderful care for a number of the elderly in need. She successfully ran the Bethany Home for 10 years.
Still having a strong desire to care for human life, she went back to work in the skilled nursing profession, where she retired from Shore Haven (Sanctuary at the Shore currently MediLodge) in Grand Haven after 10 years in 2002. Eileen was very strong in her faith and shared that strength with many throughout the years. She attended St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and was part of De Colores in the 1970’s.
She also attended Our Lady of Grace for a period of time. Along with her faith, she also loved her coffee, as in pots and her conversation, as in hours. Eileen was a master joke teller and always asked anyone she knew, “Have you heard any good jokes lately?
” She made laughing a part of her everyday life. She was the life of the party. Eileen always had her door “open” to anyone who needed anything or wanted to discuss/debate something.
Or tell her a new joke. She was an award-winning spaghetti sauce maker and had an undeniable love of food. In the 60’s and 70’s, Eileen would spend many summer hours at the beach enjoying all that Lake Michigan had to offer.
She truly loved being outdoors breathing the fresh air and experience the waves. When spring arrived each year, she spent much of her time tending to her gardens where she planted, weeded and appreciated all the beautiful plant life she helps create. Eileen would also spend many of the winter months making various homemade soaps that she would give as gifts throughout the year.
She was an accomplished pianist and played beautiful pieces as recently as a few weeks ago. She was a ferocious reader and loved to share good books with whomever would be interested. Later in life, Eileen became a real card shark, playing rummy for hours on end with her children and grandchildren always striving for the next win.
In summary, Eileen loved and cared for all people and enjoyed all that life had to offer her. She will be missed by many. Eileen is survived by her three sons and two grandchildren.
They are son John (Lisa) Rogers and their two children, Jacob and Lily Kate, son Jim (Marianne) Rogers and son Daniel Rogers. She is preceeded in death by her parents and daughter Patricia Yvette Rogers. The family will act on Eileen’s wishes to have a family only service to celebrate her life on earth.
