Elaine Evelyn (Thompson) Loeffen, age 92 of Pelican Rapids, MN died Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Pelican Valley Senior Living. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. with parish prayers at 7:00 on Friday, March 15 at Schoeneberger Funeral & Cremation Service in Perham, MN. Visitation will resume from 10:00-11:00 a.m. followed by the memorial Mass at 11:00 on Saturday, March 16 at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Perham.

Father Eb Schefers will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Elaine was born April 1, 1926 in South Bend, IN to William and Clare (Thanghe) Thompson.

At the age of one they moved to Butler, MN where she attended country school through grade eight. She then attended one year of high school in West Fargo, ND and the last three years of high school she attended and graduated from Spooner, WI in 1945. Elaine returned to Perham and started her nursing career at St. James Hospital as a nurse’s aide and LPN with Perham Memorial Hospital.

On November 21, 1946 she married the love of her life, John Loeffen. They made their home on the family farm in Butler until 1957 when they moved to Perham. Elaine continued her nursing career until her retirement in 1990.

John and Elaine built their retirement home on Lake Seven in 1987 where they enjoyed the loons, fishing, gardening, and plenty of family get-togethers. When the lake place was too much for them to take care of, they moved to a retirement community in 1998 on Lake Cowdrey in Alexandria, MN. John died in January 1999.

Elaine continued to live in Alexandria until 2017 when she moved to Pelican Rapids Senior Living. Elaine is survived by her children Clara (Joe) Riepe of Perham, Jack (Judy) Loeffen of Sebeka, MN, Ann Marie (Steve) Tilleskjor of Alexandria, MN, Tom (Barb) Loeffen of Perham, Barbara Jo (Jack) Henner of Hanes, OR, Nancy (Marty) Hanson of Pelican Rapids, Carol Ann (Wayne) Kreutner of St. Cloud, MN, Peg (Dan) Anderson of Lake City, SD and Jeanette (Jeff) Jenkins of Front Royal, VA; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; her brother Robert (Jane)Thompson of Chisholm, MN; half-brothers Arville (Rita) Thompson of Frazee, MN and Darold Thompson of Detroit Lakes, MN; half-sister Arlette O’Donnell of San Luis, CA; sisters-in-law Aggie Hemmelgarn of Perham and Mary Loeffen of Lead, SD. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John; her sons Michael and Billy; grandsons Marc Boedigheimer and Randy Windels; granddaughter Jeannie Spanswick; great-grandson Toby Windels; and her half-sister Beverly Nelson.
