Eleanor Mae Edwards, 77, of Herrin, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. A Celebration of Life, hosted by her family, will be held Saturday, December 29, 2018, at the Carterville Boat and Yacht Club from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Eleanor was born on November 21, 1941, in Portsmouth, Virginia, to John Wesley and Lillian Anna (Bloom) Atkins. She married Lawrence Lavern Edwards on May 7, 1958, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

She is survived by her children, Robert (Patty) Edwards of Crainville, Frankie (Rhonda) Edwards of Carterville, Larry Edwards of Herrin, Annetta (Ed) Eytalis of Carbondale, Jannetta Edwards of Carterville, and Lisa (Rick) Tyner of Royalton; grandchildren, Bryan (Cassidy) Edwards of Carterville, Jessi Baker of Belleville and Derrick Owens of Freeman Spur; great-grandchildren, David Owens, Zayden Owens and Adelyn Edwards; brothers, Paul and Fred Atkins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Jimmy. Eleanor worked at Herrin Hospital as a CNA for 35 years.

Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville assisted the family with cremation services.
