Our beloved mother Pastor Ella Mae Brown was born November 7, 1940 to the late Charlie and Clynell Bray (Williams), in Newark, New Jersey. She transitioned this world on November 18, 2018 at St. Luke’s hospital in PA. She was one of seven children.

Pastor Ella Mae Brown was known to everyone as (Ma, Nana, Pastor, Neil, Aunt Neil). She later moved to Fort Gaines, Georgia with her family for a short while and later moved to Plainfield, New Jersey where she resided with her husband and family… Read More » for 43 years. Pastor Ella Mae Brown met Elder Leo Brown in 1955; they later united in holy matrimony on November 26, 1957 and were married for 58 years.

Pastor Ella Mae Brown was predeceased by her husband Elder Leo Brown, her father and mother Charlie and Clynell Bray; her 5 children Eric, Sharon, Karen, Leon, and Leo Brown Jr.; 1 great-grandchild Fattiyah Smith; and 2 brothers Charlie Bray Jr. and Julius Wayne Bray; 2 sisters Inell Martin and Retha Dixon. She leaves to cherish her memory their six children Carol McLaurin (Daniel Walton), Carollena Brown-Lowe (Alvin), Andy Brown, LaWanda Brown-Casey (Milton), Tymeil and Tymicia Brown; (and a loving son in law A.W. McLaurin); 13 grandchildren and 24 great- grandchildren and 1 on the way. She also leaves behind a lifetime of precious memories with her sister Hattie Chapman and brother Eddie Lee Bray; as well as her devoted church family the House of Prayer Holy Mission, a host of brother and sister in laws, friends and family.

Pastor Ella Mae Brown attended J.P. Stevens High School and for many years after that she woked as a home health aide for Patient Care out of Westfield, NJ. Over the course of years starting in 1985-1992, Pastor Brown was called into the ministry where she began her studies under the leadership of the School of Dean Bowels Bible Institute in Roselle, NJ. Here is where she received her Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate Certification in Divinity & Ministry; shortly after she was licensed and ordained as a Minister and soon after she was called into Pastoring.

Pastor Ella Mae Brown has committed her life to the Lord for going on 33 years. After being under the leadership of Rev. Moore at White Rock Baptist church in Edison, NJ, Pastor Brown founded The House of Prayer Holy Mission in Plainfield, NJ.

In her final years as Pastor of The House of Prayer Holy Mission, she spent her later years teaching those willing to follow in the footsteps of Christ how to navigate the bible and how to earn their discipleship within the church. As a firm believer in, “Come as you are,” Pastor Brown gives youth the opportunity to come to a church of no judgement where they can be a part of the choir and play instruments during various services. She is a woman of virtue and excellence.

She has given her love and dedication to the Lord’s work in more ways than one. Continuing her walk in Christ Pastor Brown and her members will continue to do the work of God! “But seek ye first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you”.
