Obituary for Elmer F. Baron Elmer Francis Baron of Newberg, OR died at his home surrounded by his family and loving wife of 74 years on Saturday, November 24th at the age of 96. Elmer was born on July 26, 1922 to Roy and Ethel (Howell) Baron in St. Urban, WA. In 1926, they moved to Springbrook, OR.

He attended Springbrook Elementary and graduated from Newberg High School in 1940. During his senior year, he met Donna Jean Wright and they were married on January 22, 1944 in San Francisco, CA. Elmer enlisted in the US Navy in 1943, stationed on LST 648 out of Treasure Island, CA.

He was involved in the invasion at Iwo Jima and was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of Radio/Radar Technician 1st Class. Upon returning to Oregon, Elmer and Jean raised their 3 children and an exchange student from Guatemala, Marta de Carvajal, in Sherwood, OR. Elmer worked as an electrician and went on to become an electrical contractor owning a company with David Sprecher.

Elmer was an active member of the Sherwood Community Friends Church since 1957. He was also a member of the Sherwood School Board and Kiwanis and participated in Volkswalks and Meals-on-Wheels. In retirement, Elmer and Jean enjoyed traveling to all 50 states and throughout the world.

Elmer is survived by his wife Jean; sons Steve (Janelle) Baron of Manzanita, OR, Terry (Bev) Baron of McCall, ID, and daughter Elaine (Andy) Smith of LaPine, OR; 6 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held on December 8, 2018 at Sherwood Community Friends Church at 2:30 pm.
