Elouise Canerday James May 03, 1928 – December 22, 2018 Share this obituary Local Florists Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Mrs. Eloise Canerday James, age 90, passed away Saturday, December 22nd after a very short illness. Mrs. James was known to many as a sweet fiesty southern lady with style. She and husband, Melvin, owned and operated the White House Grocery for many years.

She loved to play Rook, dominoes and loved to dance. She was a member of Laurel Heights Baptist Church. She loved her family but most of all she was a God fearing woman.

Born May 3,1928, Mrs. James is preceded in death by her parents, Presley and Lucille Canerday of Calvin, Louisiana. Her one love, Melvin James in 1987 and her youngest daughter, Susie James Ashley earlier this year. Those left to cherish her memory are her brother, Buddy Canerday.

Her daughter, Vera James Abels. Son in law, Alvin Ashley. One granddaughter, Sandy Abels Borland and husband, Scott.

Two grandchildren, Dustin Abels and Megan Reeves. Three great grandchildren, Presley Reeves, Ayden Abels and Jaxon Abels. And her very special nephew, Leroy James.

Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home Wednesday, December 26th from 10am until service time. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 26th at 12 Noon in the Chapel of Southern Funeral Home with Reverend Lamar Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethlehem Baptist Church cemetery in Calvin, LA under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.

Serving the family as pallbearers will be Dustin Abels, Scott Borland, Alvin Ashley, Leroy James, Thomas Ray Berry and Brent James.
