Elza’s Obituary Born to Elza P. and Pearl Sawyers Cummings on July 14, 1929 in Gibson County, Marie went to be with her Lord on March 12, 2019. She was a long-time member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School and LOGOS Classes. Being a long-time member of CPW, she was chosen as a Patron Member in 2012.

Marie was a member of Lydia Circle, serving at times in the roles of President and Secretary. She was also a member of the Lola Summers Sunday School Class serving in different capacities. As a charter member of the Keenagers, she served in several positions.

She enjoyed playing in the Tuesday and Thursday Bridge Clubs. She enjoyed China Painting and was a member of the West TN Porcelain Guild serving as Secretary. Being a long-time member of the Women’s Club, where she served as Secretary Treasurer, she also became a charter member of the former Junior Women’s Club.

Marie was also an avid seamstress. She sewed clothes for several children, even having some of them to model her clothes in the Dyer County Fair. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2019 at Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev.

Annetta Camp officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Dyersburg Funeral Home and from 12-1 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2019 at the church. She is survived by a son, J.W. (Buddy) Davis, II; a daughter, Dena (Marvin) Hilliard; two granddaughters, Hollie (James) McAfee and Kristi (Jay) Greer; three great-grandchildren, Jacob McAfee, Logan McAfee and Anna Grace Greer; her special friends, Terry and Michelle Piskorski and their children, Kayla, Ashley, Cole and Corey and Mike Dobis; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, J.W. Davis; her parents, Elza and Pearl Cummings; her brothers, Arnett Cummings and Max B. Cummings; and her sisters, Florence Reed, Frances Howell and Roberta Wicson.

Pallbearers will be Terry Piskorski, Mike Dobis, John Ford, Tim Castellaw, Danny Fowlkes, Neil Henry, Cole Piskorski and Larry Fowlkes.
