Emanuel DuBois, Sr. September 14, 1928 – February 04, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Emanuel DuBois, Sr. was born on September 14, 1928 to the late Bertha Fryar DuBois and Erasmus Duncan “R.D.” DuBois in Colleton County, South Carolina. He was called from labor to reward at the Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla, NY on February 4, 2019 after a lengthy illness. Emanuel professed his love for Christ and received Him as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age.
He was a member of Buckhead United Methodist Church in Ruffin, S.C. until he migrated to White Plains in 1958. He then joined Mount Hope African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church where he was a member for over 50 years. Emanuel received his formal education in the Colleton County Public Schools.
He was also a graduate of the Elite Barber School in New York City, NY. He was employed by Hawthorne Cedar Knolls School until his retirement. Emanuel loved to tell jokes; some were funny and some were not.
When others did not share in his sense of humor, he would get highly offended. Those left to cherish fond memories are three sons, Emanuel Jr. ( Gale) DuBois, of Chesterfield, VA, Adell DuBois of White Plains, NY and William G. (Joyce) DuBois of White Plains, NY; one daughter, Agusta (Walter) Shedrick of Philadelphia, PA; three sisters-in-law, Pauline DuBois of White Plains, Almeta Hodges of Charleston, S.C. and Helen Rhodes of Overland Park, Ks; . a special niece and nephew, Carolyn DuBois (Kenneth) White and John “Buck” DuBois, who were like his children; grandchildren, Michelle, Emanuel III, Ashlee, Lynette, Tracey, Shantel, Nikiyia, Navotta, Japrice, Tanganequa, Sonia, Tanya, Devin, Kimberly, Tyra, Timothy, Charita, Shanda, William II, Dorian, Verna, Telese, and Walter Jr., a special great granddaughter Skylah “his honey” Bert and a host of other relatives, nieces, nephews, great grands, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife, Virginia Salley DuBois, his parents Bertha Fryar DuBois and Erasmus Duncan DuBois; three grandsons, Boris, Kenyatta and Lorenzo; three brothers, Adam DuBois, Aaron DuBois and Esaw DuBois; three sisters, Rhunell DuBois Yates, Elvie DuBois Yates Davis and Mary G.
