Obituary for Emma Andrade Neill Our mother, Emma Neill, the loving, generous, and irrepressible matriarch of our family has gone into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Emma passed away at the age of 93 on December 6, 2018 surrounded by her family. We will miss her boundless energy and love.

Emma was born in Santa Ana, California on October 21, 1925, but spent her formative years in Calexico, California. She came to San Diego with her family as a teenager in 1942 and ultimately settled in Barrio Logan. Our mom held many hats in her life.

Her first job was as a Rosie the Riveter, then a salesclerk, waitress, beauty consultant, and Tupperware consultant, to name just a few. She later worked as an Employment Claims Assistant with the State of California for eighteen years. Mom was known by countless people for her “healthy” flour tortillas, a recipe she for which she eventually obtained a patent.

She probably made hundreds of thousands of tortillas in her lifetime, later using them for her delicious and popular empanadas. A self-described people person, she loved a party and was an exceptional partner for many appreciative dancers. Emma’s most important and impactful roles were that of mother, Nana, and great-Nana.

She is survived by her six children: Victoria (Terry) Lauber, Oscar L. Andrade, Rachel (Don) Forsyth, Roxanne (Steve) Ewalt, Adam (May) Andrade, and Enrique (Michel) Andrade. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, worship friends, and caretakers. Emma was predeceased by her parents Victoria and Felix Arreola, ex-husband Oscar D. Andrade, second husband John Neill, brother Luis Arreola and sister Stella Musselman.

Emma is survived by her brother Rodolfo Tanos. Funeral arrangements are as follows: Viewing at Featheringill Mortuary, 6322 El Cajon Blvd. 92115, Friday, Dec.

14; 4:00-8:00 p.m. Service: The Shelter Church, 5651 Water Street, La Mesa, 91942; Saturday Dec. 15, 10:00 a.m. She will be interred at Holy Cross Cemetery in a private ceremony. To send flowers to the family of Emma Andrade Neill, please visit our Heartfelt Sympathies Store.
