Poland – Emma Mae Botsko, 89, of Poland, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Health Center. Mrs. Botsko was born February 15, 1929 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Horace and Sarah (Boyer) Richard. She graduated from East High School in June of 1947.

Mrs. Botsko worked as a cashier for Loblaw Grocery Store in Youngstown for several years and later as a bookkeeper for McCrone’s Furniture & Appliance Store for 23 years. She was a longtime member of Holy Family Parish in Poland. Emma especially enjoyed bowling and served as secretary of the Holiday Bowl Ladies League.

She was named secretary of the year in 1992-1993. She was also an avid baker, and was especially known for her delicious kolaches. Emma was also an obsessive Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns fan.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Patricia M. Botsko and her husband, Michael D. Bechtol of Torrance, CA; a grandson, the apple of her eye and whom she loved more than anything in the world, Christopher M. Bechtol of Torrance, CA; her best friend, confidante, and partner-in-crime, sister-in-law, Alice Richard of Poland; and her sister, Norma Anania of Youngstown. In addition to her parents, Emma was preceded in death by her loving husband, Peter Botsko, whom she married on September 23, 1950, on June 4, 2004; three brothers, Harold, James, and Wilbur Richard; and two sisters, Betty McFall and Lois Forney. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 2729 Center Road, Poland.

Interment will take place at Poland Riverside Cemetery at a time to be determined. Friends will be received on Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main Street, Poland and on Saturday from 9:30-9:50 a.m. at the church. Emma was a very frugal but yet charitable person.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial tributes take the form of a contribution in her name to a charity of your choosing.
