Mr. & Mrs. George Vernon and Erma Mae Dixon, long time Frankfort residents, passed away within days of each other. Vernon was born December 12, 1927, in Tell City, to George Ivan and Mamie (Brumfield) Dixon. Erma was born September 4, 1934, in Lebanon, to John J. and Mary (McClain) Scott.
They were married on July 22, 1953, at First Baptist Church in Lebanon; together they shared 65 years of marriage. In 1947, Vernon graduated from Frankfort High School and then served in the United States Army. Throughout his life, Vernon had worked at Ingram Richardson for over 30 years before its closing and then worked at Jim Dandy.
He was a member of the Frankfort American Legion and loved working in his garden, bird watching, and playing with his dog. In 1954, Erma graduated from Frankfort High School. She had worked for the National Cigar Factory for 40 years and also Wallbana, Peter Paul, Shultz IGA, and currently at Wal-Mart.
She had attended the First Baptist Church, was a member of the Moose Auxiliary, and loved flowers, bowling and playing cards, especially euchre. Surviving Vernon and Erma are their children, Terry Dixon, of Frankfort, Dixie (Paul) Sims, of Findlay, Ohio, and John Dixon, of Frankfort; her brother, Bob Scott, of Virginia; her sister, Peg Woods; their grandchildren, Ian Sims, Bryce Sims, Dustin Dixon, and Jadi Dixon; and two great grandchildren. They are preceded in death by their parents, his brother, Alden Lee Dixon; his sister, Lois Morris; her brother, Sid Scott; and her sister, Virginia Bush.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 15, 2019, at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort, from 12 noon to the start of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Chuck Williams will officiate. Burial will follow in Bunnell Cemetery. Online condolences may be directed to www.
