Blessed be the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God. Esperanza Cruz was a child of God. Esperanza was born on August 16, 1934 in Mexico.
She lost her father at an early age but she was blessed with a dedicated mother, Josefa Reyes, and many brothers and sisters. Esperanza met the love of her life Porfirio Cruz. They married and migrated to the United States and settled in Dallas, Texas.
They had two sons, Porfirio Cruz, Jr. and Jose Manuel. She was always a dedicated Catholic and believer. Esperanza and her husband were long time parishioners at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Dallas.
She had a fondness for St. Jude. Esperanza was always frugal and knew how to stretch a dollar. Esperanza helped the family with her seamstress business making beautiful pillows and quilts.
Esperanza loved cooking for her family, especially on Sundays. Her family loved her enchiladas and flautas. She also loved all family gatherings and parties.
She loved to dance at the parties. Even if she couldn’t make the party she always made sure the honoree had a gift from her. Esperanza and her sisters loved playing slots at Winstar and playing bingo.
She had her priorities though and her games never came before her family, especially if she had the opportunity to feed them Sunday dinner. Her pride and joy were her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved being with family.
Esperanza is survived by her sons Porfirio Cruz and his wife, Melissa and Jose Manuel and his wife Ana; grandchildren, Porfirio Cruz III, Estephania Cruz, Marissa Cruz, and Mayra Paredes; and great-grandchildren, Isaiah Cruz, Ana Ruth Paredes and Elizabeth Paredes; and siblings, Ignacio Flores, Socorro Flores, Alicia Reyes, San Juana Perez, Juan Antonio Castañeda, Elena Dominguez and Jose Ramon Castañeda. She joins in heaven, her husband of 35 years, Porfirio Cruz, Sr.; her parents; and her brothers, Francisco and Juan Manuel Flores. The family wants to thank all those family and friends that loved her and visited and cared for her during through her journey that took her home.
Her smile, peaceful disposition, and kindness will be missed every day.
