Esther Emily (Brassor) Pratt, 94, formerly of West Hawley Road in Charlemont, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at Buckley HealthCare Center in Greenfield, Massachusetts early Monday morning, January 14, 2019, surrounded by her family. Born on April 24, 1924 in Guilford, Vermont, daughter of Frank Joseph Brassor and Nellie (Bassett) Brassor, Esther was one of 15 children and spent most of her early years in Northfield, Massachusetts. She married Gordon M. Pratt on November 11, 1944, and they lived in Turners Falls, Zoar and Monroe Bridge, and finally bought their property in Charlemont in 1956, where they spent the rest of their lives together.

Esther worked in the gift shop and kitchen at Mohawk Park Restaurant in Charlemont, and then in the kitchen at the Plantation House in Charlemont, and finally as a machine operator at Kendall Mills in Colrain for several years prior to her retirement. She then spent much of her time looking after her grandchildren. Esther had resided at Buckley since 2015 and enjoyed daily visits with her friend, Dot Sessions, until her unfortunate passing last year.

Some of her favorite pastimes were watching classic TV shows – especially game shows (old and new), reading, word search puzzles, and crocheting afghans to give away as gifts to her loved ones. While at Buckley, Esther was known to clap her hands in glee when loved ones arrived to visit with some of her favorite treats, including strawberry milkshakes, strawberry covered donuts, and bologna sandwiches. Esther, her family and friends, and the employees of Buckley, enjoyed her many dancing, solar-powered figurines that filled her window, as well as her collection of stuffed animals on the wall.

Esther was predeceased by her husband of more than 69 years, Gordon, on April 22, 2014, her daughter, Linda Williams (2007), her great-granddaughter, Josephine Barnhart (2000), 13 brothers and sisters, and several nieces and nephews. Esther is survived by three children: her daughter, Gloria Decker, and her husband, Douglas, of Hawley, her daughter, Nancy Taylor, and her husband, Steven, of Ashfield, and son, Bruce Pratt, and his wife, Kimberly, of Athol, as well as one older sister, Marion Raymond, of Fort Kent, Maine. She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Bernie Barnhart (Gina) of Hawley, Kyle Decker (Tammy) of Heath, Georgia Mead (Gerry) of Northbridge, Lovia Koscinski (Marc) of Leeds, Maine, Lisa Woodard (“Woody”) of Colrain, Nikki Williams of Colrain, Vicki Woodard (James) of Abbeville, SC, Deanna Sears (Randy) of Ashfield, Craig Taylor (Heather) of Ashfield, Damion Pratt of Athol, Christine Reynolds (Gary) of Greenfield, Michael Hutchison (Laura) of Hubbardston, Felicia Brown (Robert) of Athol, Natasha Beauchemin of Orange, Richard Easton (Jennifer) of Greenfield, Andrew Easton (Sara) of Bernardston, Joseph Easton (Holly) of Orange, and Thomas Easton (Rebecca) of Erving.

Esther is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Watrous and Patricia Richotte, many great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and honorary granddaughter, Donna Rose. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Esther’s life on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Charlemont Federated Church, 175 Main Street, Charlemont, Massachusetts. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in her name to New England Hospice, 190 Old Derby Street, Suite 304, Hingham, MA 02043.
