Ethel L. Lobdell January 22, 1919 – March 15, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Send Private Condolences Ethel L. Lobdell, 100, of Lena passed away on Friday March 15, 2019, at the Lena Living Center. She was born on January 22, 1919 to Hugo and Melissa (Albright) Neebel in Kent, IL. She married William Lobdell in 1938 and spent 57 wonderful years together.

Ethel worked at Crum & Forster as a receptionist doing clerical work for many years. She tended to her gardens regularly, as well as baking and cooking, hosting many gatherings, and spending as much time with her family as she could. She was an avid reader, sang in the home extension choir and was also a member of the Stephenson County Home Extension group.

She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Women’s Guild and was a long time member of the Sorority Beta Sigma Phi chapter- Delta Mu. Ethel enjoyed playing cards, and belonged to a card club. She was also a milking competition champion as a young woman in Pearl City.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews; Kurtis (Jeannie) Bares, Suellyn (Kevin) Tritz, Christine (George) Skizas, Richard (Loyce) Bares, Nancy (LeRoy) McDonnell, Ann (Larry) Beetham; 23 grand nieces and nephews, and 37 great grand-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter, Rita, in 2014. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2019 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Leamon Funeral Home in Lena, IL.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 18, 2019 at 10:30 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lena, IL. Pastor Miho Yasukawa will officiate the services. Burial will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport, IL.

A memorial has been established in her name.
