Obituary for Ethel Prough-Printy Ethel C. Prough-Printy, 92, passed away December 10, 2018 after a short stay at the Good Samaritan Home in Indianola, Iowa where her daughter, Rhonda Anderson, provided extra care for her during the length of her stay. Prior to that time, she lived for five years in the loving care of her daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Rodney Masters of Chariton. Services will be held at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home on December 15th, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., with Rev.
Bobby Jones officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Ethel will be laid to rest at the Russell Cemetery.
Ethel was born October 15, 1926 to Carl and Margaret (McGill) Cottrell in Osceola, Iowa. She lived most of her life in the Russell and Chariton Communities and graduated from Russell High School in 1943. She cleaned houses and took in washing and ironing for extra income.
Her hobbies consisted of trying new recipes, reading, crossword puzzles, crocheting and quilt making. She married Harry (Junior) Prough on June 5, 1943, to this union was born three children, Marilyn, Ronald and Rhonda. In 2001, she married Lewis Printy.
Ethel was a very loving and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She cherished each moment with her children and grandchildren. She loved making quilts and afghans and made one for each grandchild.
She accepted the Lord as her Savior at Center Community Church, 1948, and was baptized Easter Sunday, 1949. Ethel wrote in a memory book for one of her grandchildren that her favorite Bible verse was Psalm 46:1, “God is our refuge and strength an ever-present help in times of trouble”. Favorite book in the Bible was Proverbs, “because it taught her how live and think”.
She trusted in the Lord for physical strength daily and asked him for guidance in decisions she had to make. Her advice to her family was “Always be good a neighbor, help others in need, be honest, and live so others can trust you in all things you do and say”. Ethel lived her life by always helping, caring and doing for others.
She will be remembered for saying with a big smile “There’s always something to do if you aren’t particular about what you do”. She said, “My life has been centered around my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I have enjoyed them as babies and watched them grow and change and make their own lives, I love them all dearly”.
Ethel was preceded in death by her infant brother; parents; husband, Junior Prough of 52 years; husband, Lewis Printy of 6 years; grandson, Don Overholtzer; great-grandson Kyle Weidner; great-great grandson, Mason Richard; and sister-in-law, Fern Cottrell. Those left to cherish memory include her children: Marilyn (Rodney) Masters of Chariton, Ronald Prough of Oklahoma City, and Rhonda Anderson of Indianola; brother, Dale Cottrell of Chariton; sister, Doris (Ron) Christensen of Chariton; brother-in-law, Harold (Daphen) Prough of Chariton; grandchildren: Dennis (Marilyn) Masters of Chariton, Jana Overholtzer of Russell, Valerie (David) Dunn of Oklahoma City, Dee (Brian) of Knoxville, Lynette (Patrick) Fadden of Pleasant Hill, and Ryan (Lindsey) Richard of Norwalk. Ethel is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren.
