Eugene Allen Salman, Sr., 82 of Jacksonville went to be with his Heavenly Father on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 17, 2018 at his home. Mr. Salman was born April 30, 1936, in Columbus, Ohio to the late Harry A. and Ruth E. (McCarthy) Salman. Later in his adult life he was adopted by his stepmother Zelma Conklin Salman.
After attending Kentucky Military Institute, he graduated in 1954 from Academy High School, Erie, Pennsylvania. He married Maria A. DiFuccia (deceased) in 1956. Surviving are their children Filomena (James) Kizer, Ohio, Patrick (Marsha) Salman, Little Rock, Eugene (Patricia) Salman, Jr, Searcy, Belinda Plastiras, Little Rock, Angela (Steve) Deen, Searcy, Mary (Jimmy) Womack, Mayflower, Daniel (Tammy) Salman, Sherwood, and Teresa (Jimmy) Burrow, N. Carolina.
Survivors also include grandchildren; Elizabeth Kizer, Amanda Glick, Monica (Matt) Frankart, Stephanie Kizer, all of Ohio, Kelsey (Kristyn) Salman, Texas, Kalin Salman, Landon Salman, Joshua Salman, Nicole Salman, Andrew Salman, Ashleigh Plastiras, Anna Marie Plastiras, Jacob Shourd, Jordan Shourd, Christina Holt, Jonathan Holt, Adrianna Womack, Mallari Jordan, all of Arkansas and Cameron Burrow of North Carolina, and great-grandchildren Maddison and Natalie Glick of Ohio, as well as 2 on the way. He remarried Maria Luz who survives. He is also survived by his sister Evelyn Oatman of Erie, PA.
Serving his country for more than 20 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Salman was at first a jet engine mechanic and later a jet engine instructor. After an honorable discharge from his military career, he worked in the Civil Service sector which took him to numerous locations throughout the world. Outside of his career, he loved nature and enjoyed raising a number of farm animals as well as having a large garden every year.
He was a skilled craftsman and would often construct buildings and other projects. Once when asked how he wanted to be remembered he said, “He loved God. He loved his family.
He loved his country”. The funeral Mass for Mr. Salman will be held Saturday, July 7, 2018, at 10:00 at St. James Catholic Church in Searcy. After the funeral, he will be interred with full military honors at the church.
