OBITUARY Eugene Harrison Hudson Sr. January 11, 1920 – July 15, 2018 Eugene Harrison Hudson, Sr was born on January 11, 1920 and left his earthly life to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 15, 2018. He was preceded in death by Mary, his wife of 57 years, and, Skip, his firstborn son. He is survived by his children Dennis Hudson and Cathie Green both of Duncanville, Texas; his five grandchildren Tonia & Cameron Carpenter of Denton, Christie & Jamie McGee of Bastrop, Sulinda & Gary Trilops of Corinth, Michelle & KD Durham of Dallas and Allen Green of DeSoto; his thirteen great-grandchildren Shaylee, Thomas, Jaedon, Andrew, Colton, Caela, Alyssa, Candace, Haleigh, Brooklyn, Memphis, Christian & Hudson; his sister & brother-in-law, Liladene & Edward Stout of Washington and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In 1940, Gene began a life of service when he enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a Senior Chief Boatswains Mate on the USS Salt Lake City during World Word II and retired in 1977. While raising his sons, Gene served as a Boy Scout Master leading numerous campouts and retreats. Later in his life he held leadership roles within the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church and at his home church of more than 60 years, Wheatland United Methodist.

As an active member, Gene sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and served on numerous committees. In his late 80’s he delivered Meals on Wheels and beginning in 2003, he served as a volunteer at Oak Cliff Churches for Emergency Aid food pantry. He participated in his local Citizens On Patrol, the Citizens Fire Academy, and in 2017, he was honored with the “Heart of Our Hometown” award for his service to the community of Duncanville, Texas.

Even greater than his heart for service was his heart for Christ. Gene lived out his Christianity in visible ways and unabashedly shared his faith with all those around him. He was still hosting weekly Bible study in his home as recently as June 2018.

Gene was a loving & loyal husband, father & “PawPaw” who taught his family the true meaning of unconditional love and commitment. Lamentations 3:22-24…”Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

I say to myself ‘The Lord is my portion; there I will wait for him. ’ The Lord is good to those who hope is in him to the one who seeks him”. In a special way, the family would like to extend thanks to NaKia for her loving care of Gene for the last two years and to Vitas Hospice staff and Heritage Home HealthCare for their wonderful care of Gene over the last several years and most especially during his final days.

Services will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Wheatland United Methodist Church located at 8000 S Hampton Rd in Dallas, TX. Visitation with the family is scheduled for Tuesday, July 17, 2018 from 6pm-8pm at Laurel Land Funeral Home located at 6000 S RL Thornton Freeway in Dallas, TX.
