Obituary for Mr. Eugene Phillip McCormick “Phil” Eugene Phillip McCormick,Jr. “Phil”, died November 17, 2018 in Paoli Hospital. He was born in Buffalo, NY, September 20, 1942, the son of the late Eugene Phillip McCormick and Belle (Keefe) McCormick.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Margaret (Moore) McCormick and his son Darren Keith McCormick. Survived by his wife Christine (Pilecki) McCormick, daughter Amy (McCormick ) Poston, son Richard McCormick, 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; brother Peter McCormick (Wendy), nieces Lauren McCormick and Kaitlin (McCormick) White (Joseph), mother-in-law Stella Pilecki, sister-in-law Kathleen Pilecki, brother-in-law Paul S. Pilecki (Barbara), nephews Derek Pilecki (Ann) and Christopher Pilecki (Tara), also three grandnieces and three grandnephews. Retired Architect and professional planner–AIA, AICP Leed AP GGP.
Educated at Pratt Institute in NY; a Fulbright Scholar at the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey. He served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Santiago, Chile where he taught disadvantaged migrants to the city how to build their own houses. His approach to improving civilization through safe and sustainable design is profiled in the award winning Laka Perspectives.
His work includes hospitals, education and research facilities, and other public institutions in the eastern US, South America and the Caribbean. With his wife Christine he conducted educational programs directed at creating a sustainable suburbia and provided local planning advice. Avid sailors he and Christine cruised the east coast for 30 years, and he was a golf enthusiast.
Active in the Episcopal Church and charitable organizations throughout his life. Family and friends are invited to his Memorial Service on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 1 p.m. in St. Francis of the Fields Episcopal Church, 689 Sugartown Road Malvern, PA 19355. Int.
