Eva Mai Choate March 23, 1926 – March 24, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Eva passed away peacefully in her sleep the day after her 93rd birthday surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Russellville, Kentucky March 23, 1926 to Charles and Mabel Carter (Mullen); they soon moved to Nashville, Tennessee which is where Eva grew up. During World War II, she wrote letters to soldiers serving overseas, one of those soldiers, Marine William Herschel Choate, came back to marry her and they wed March 2, 1946.
William (Bill) and Eva had three children together, Duane L. Choate (1947-2014), Brenda L. Young (1957), and Wanda Y. McCown (1958). Bill’s career with the powerline construction kept them moving from one coast to the other and back again, until his death in 1975, in Olympia, Washington. Eva went back to school to earn her degree in Data Entry, and then worked for the State of Washington.
After retiring, she was surrounded by her friends, her family, her grandchildren, and then her great-grandchildren, which brought her much joy; along with her little dog-friend Belle. Eva was preceded in death, and is now reunited with her husband, Bill; and only son Duane L. Choate. She is survived by her two daughters, Brenda Young, and Wanda (Craig) McCown, daughter-in-law Edie Choate, niece Sandra (Walt) Morgan, and nephew Gary (Janice) Irwin.
Bill and Eva’s three children brought them seven loving grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. A viewing of Eva will take place on Thursday March 28th from 2-4 p.m. at Forest Funeral Home & Cemetery. A graveside service will be held Friday March 29th at 1:00 p.m. at Forest Funeral Home & Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. held at Mills & Mills Funeral Home.
