Evelyn Truka, 84, of rural Lime Springs, IA, died Tuesday, December 20, 2018, after a short illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 24, 2018, at Notre Dame Parish with Fr. Dennis Cain officiating.

Burial will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Cemetery Lourdes, IA. Visitation is from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 23, 2018, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Evelyn Jean Truka was born in Mitchell County, Iowa, on July 3, 1934, the daughter of Kenneth and Helen (Hennessey) Beck.

Evelyn and her parents moved several times during her childhood before settling on the farm in rural Howard County. On October 29, 1951, Evelyn was united in marriage to Leland Truka at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. They farmed in Howard County where they raised their six children.

Evelyn was involved in local, church, and community activities. She loved having coffee with her friends. She did a lot of crocheting and embroidery, making baby blankets for all of her 23 great-grandchildren.

Evelyn was devoted to family, faith, and community. She was a dedicated daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She always felt dutiful, not expecting reward or acknowledgement for herself.

Evelyn valued tradition and dedication. She never demanded anything for herself; she always avoided extravagance and self-indulgence, and prized self-sufficiency. She had a strong belief in the good of others.

Evelyn loved being with others working on a common goal or celebration. She had a quiet witty sense of humor that was keen and warm, but not demeaning. Often in times of trial and difficulty, she found humor and focused on the bright aspects.

Evelyn loved rural life, beautiful flowers, sunrises and sunsets. She enjoyed watching the birds out the window (but not the squirrels, raccoons, and deer eating the birdseed). She had a strong will and determination.

She was an organized person with attention to detail, and could turn things of no value into something very useful. Evelyn is survived by two daughters, Christina (Steve Sautter) Truka of Aurora, CO, and Roxanne Kraft of Cresco, IA, and four sons, Joseph (Jane) Truka, James (Lori) Truka, both of Lime Springs, IA, Kenneth (Dawn) Truka of Mason City, IA, and David (Brenda) Truka of Swisher, IA. She had 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, a sister, Shirley Frana of Waterloo, IA, and two brothers, Duane (Lavonne) Beck of Cresco, IA, and Tom Beck of Lime Springs, IA.

She is preceded in death by her husband Leland on December 30, 2005.
