Evelyn M. Smith (Nelson), 97, of Paducah, Kentucky died peacefully in her home on November 13, 2018. Evelyn was born in Missouri Valley, IA, on June 21, 1921, to the late Peter and Clara (Wohlers) Nelson. She married Virgil L. Smith on January 29, 1954.

They were members of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Evelyn was a 1940 graduate from Missouri Valley High School in Iowa. She assisted in the World War 2 effort making weapon parts at Bell and Howell laboratories in Chicago, IL.

Evelyn worked at Kresge/K-Mart in the 1970s. She is survived by two sons, Kirk D. Smith of Paducah, and Bradley L. Smith of Indianapolis, IN; two daughters, Candice L. Redman of Paducah, and Shirley D. Mundell of Bradenton, FL; her brother Norman Nelson of Tucson, AZ; 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; her son, Kevin L. Smith; her sisters, Virginia Dayton and Lois Stevens; and brother Earl Nelson of Council Bluffs, IA.

Family visitation will be held from 11:00am to 12:30pm on November 17, 2018 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 211 South 21st St., in Paducah, followed by funeral services at 1:00 pm also at the Church. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St Paul Lutheran Church.
