OBITUARY Faye Maxine Butsch July 5, 1920 – October 26, 2018 Faye Wallace Butsch was born July 5, 1920 in Sac County, IA, the daughter of James L. Wallace and Verna M. (Collenbaugh) Wallace. She died on October 26, 2018 in Dallas, TX following a brief illness. When Faye was ten years old her farming family moved to the Rio Grande Valley of Texas at the onset of the Great Depression.
She graduated from Weslaco High School in 1938. During World War II she worked for the War Department at the Army Air Forces’ Harlingen Army Airfield where she met future husband Staff Sergeant and instructor at the Gunnery School Vincent C. Butsch of Schenectady, NY. They were married in 1944.
Following a brief time spent living in New York City after the war, the couple moved to Dallas where Vincent established a career with Republic National Bank. Faye was a dedicated housewife until the unfortunate early death of her husband in 1973, and a loving mother until her own passing. Following her husband’s death she spent several years employed with the United States Treasury Department, Internal Revenue Service as a secretary, from which position she retired in 1985.
For the last thirteen years of her life she resided at Grace Presbyterian Village, later the Villages of Dallas, where her optimistic and genial personality seldom failed to elicit smiles from, and put a little joy into the hearts of, staff and fellow residents. Her abiding passion was her family, including her six siblings, their spouses, and their children. She was never happier than when in their company, and was diligent in her efforts to maintain family connections.
Following retirement she made a number of trips to Southern California in an ultimately successful effort to locate and provide aid to a brother, lost to the family for more than two decades, in the final few years of his life. She also very much enjoyed many hours spent in games of bridge with friends. Faye possessed exceptional skill at adapting to whatever situations life presented her, a virtue which undoubtedly contributed significantly to her longevity.
Her children and grandchildren consider themselves fortunate for having had this example to strive to emulate. Faye was a long-time member of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Community. She was preceded in death by her husband, and by all of her treasured siblings and several of their spouses.
She is survived by daughter Trudy Taylor of Longview, TX (husband Thomas), granddaughter Eleanor Taylor, grandson Vincent Taylor (wife Lindsey) of Pearland, TX, and great grandson Jackson Taylor; by son Robert Butsch (wife Susan) of Duncanville, TX and grandson Matthew Butsch; and by two spouses of siblings and numerous cherished nieces, nephews and their children. She will be interred at Calvary Hill Cemetery and Mausoleum in Dallas by the side of her husband on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at 1:00 PM in the afternoon. At her specific request, ceremonials will be comprised of a graveside service only.
Her children, understanding what her wishes likely would be, request that in lieu of flowers or memorials, donations be made to Presbyterian Communities and Services of Dallas. Calvary Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery in Dallas, Texas has charge of arrangements.
