Obituary for Flossie Mae Henderson Mrs. Flossie M. Henderson, widow of the late Louis Calvin Henderson, peacefully left her earthly home to claim her heavenly mansion from her Lord on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, with daughter and grandchildren surrounding her with love. Preceding her in death were four siblings: sisters Mattie Alexander, Margaret Bell, Edna Lovelady, and brother Hardy Nobles; parents Kate Nobles (Cy) Dixon. A long-time resident of Guntersville, she was a pillar of the community whose legacy of love, a giving spirit, and friendliness will live on and be cherished forever by all those she touched.
She was an active member of Mt. Zion Baptist church for over 75 years. Celebrating a life “well done” of one who gave such precious memories that will be cherished forever are her daughter, Dr. Barbara J. Anthony, who has given her loving care in her home in Huntsville for the past eight years; her loving grandchildren, Jason Anthony and Janine Anthony of Atlanta and Marietta, GA, respectively; a niece, Jeanette Scissum (Andrew) Mickens, and nephew, Charles (Mary) Alexander of Huntsville; sisters-in-law Mary Henderson Baker of Guntersville; Helen Henderson Kendrick and Bernice Henderson Porter of Kansas City, MO; Penny Henderson of Windsor, OH; several nieces- and nephews-in law as well as grand- and great-grand nieces and nephews-in-law; countless other family members, friends; and very special adopted family members, Kay and William H. Benefield, Sr. and son “Bill”.
Funeral service will be Monday, December 3, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Fellowship Presbyterian Church USA in Huntsville, Alabama, 3406 Meridian Street NE 35811. Family Hour and public viewing will be held in Guntersville, Alabama, on Sunday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Carr Funeral Home, 1960 O’Brig Avenue, Guntersville, Alabama 35976. Burial will be in the Guntersville City Cemetery.
She will lie in repose one hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. service on Monday at Fellowship PCUSA. In her honor, contributions may be made to the F.A.I.T.H. Initiative, P.O. Box 3858 Huntsville, AL 35810, a service arm of Fellowship PCUSA; or to the Lakeview Community Civic Organization (LCCO), P.O. Box 1172 Guntersville, AL 35976. Both 5013 organizations award scholarships to deserving graduating high school students in their respective communities.
