Floyd E. Sample passed away on June 6th 2018 at Arbor Trace in Richmond, Indiana. He was born in Newport, Kentucky on February 24, 1921 to Floyd & Marie (Pinder) Sample. Floyd was the oldest of 12 children and lived in many states of the USA while growing up.
Floyd was known for his kindness, his ability to work hard & do his best. Floyd had a sense of humor, (teasing too), & he taught others to persevere and be respectful & loyal. Floyd is predeceased by his parents, and his wife E. Catherine Sample, their son Forrest Eugene Sample, his wife Mildred Sample, and several brothers & sisters.
He is survived by his daughter Caroline (Ron) Holsinger and their children Brian (Eva) Holsinger & their children, Mark (Jen) Holsinger & their children, Joel(Natalie) Holsinger and their children, Caren (Rob) Barnes & their children. Also step daughter Condra (Paul) Barada, & their children: Paul (Kristen) Barada & their children, Will (Eileen) Barada & their children & Jon (Brooke) Barada & their children and many nieces & nephews, neighbor Mrs. Reed & friends, and special nurses and staff that cared for him. Floyd graduated from Tech High School in Indpls.
Floyd served in the US Navy during WW2. Floyd worked for over 30 years as a tool and dye inspector at the Allison division of General Motors. Floyd served as a Deacon & Elder at Memorial Presbyterian Church & established his home on CHRIST JESUS as his SAVIOR.
Floyd was a Mason for over 75 years and was a past worshipful Master of Brookside Lodge F&M. He also had honorary titles in Demolay and Job’s Daughters. He loved going to the lodge meetings.
Floyd was active serving in the community with his wife Catherine in the Church, YMCA, Masons, athletics, where he was a referee, umpire & a registered IHSAA Official,and in the PTA. Floyd was active with his wife Millie in Masons, and in trips in the USA and in many countries. He so loved to share about their exciting trips.
They also worked at the National Parks. Floyd enjoyed also working at the Indiana State Fair, also the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for many years. He looked forward to the 500 mile race.
Floyd was honored on his 96th birthday at Kroger’s store in Speedway for his over 40 years of shopping with them and encouraging them. The employees kindness he so appreciated. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Bell Mortuary & Crematory, Shangrila Chapel, 1444 W US Hwy 52, Fountaintown, IN 46130. Burial will be at Kinnaman Cemetery, Fishers, Indiana. Online condolences can be made at www.
