Born in Roanoke, Virginia to the late Frank D. and Dorothy Blankenship. Survived by wife of 20 years, Barbara; daughter, Julie (Jr) Smith; grandchildren, Tena (Anthony), Jeffrey (Kristin), Oria and Katie (Corve); great grandchildren, Serenity, Seriyah, Cayden; siblings Linda Sprouse, Gloria Edwards, Karen (John) Gootee, Kathleen Wiggins, Arleen (Harry) Minthorne, Brian (Robin) Blankenship; many nieces, nephews and family.
