OBITUARY Frank Earl Roller January 4, 1937 – August 15, 2018 Obituary for Frank Earl Roller Born: January 4, 1937 Went to his Great Reward: August 15, 2018 Sergeant Major, Retired Frank E. Roller, 81, of San Diego, CA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at 07:00am at his home in San Diego, California surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 9:30am sharp at Miramar Cemetery with full military honors and burial of ashes. A reception for family and friends will immediately follow at the family home.

Frank was born in Buffalo, New York to Viola Johnson and William Marcelliott on January 4, 1937. He graduated in 1955 and received his Recruit training at Quantico, VA. Shortly after, Frank was stationed in Kaneohe Marine Corps Base in Honolulu, Hawaii where he married Evangeline Trinidad Ordonez on June 1, 1957 at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church.

He began his career as a Marine Corps Recruit and, over a span of 30 years, was stationed in Quantico, Virginia, Camp Le Juene, North Carolina, finally relocating and settling his family in San Diego, California where he served as Drill Sergeant at The Marine Corps Recruit Depot, quickly excelling in his career which continued at Camp Pendleton, and concluding his career as a Sergeant Major at El Toro Airforce Base, retiring at age 47 to enjoy his wife and family. Frank extended his service several times at the request of and for the convenience of the Government faithfully serving from 1968 to 1969 in the Vietnam Conflict an Infantry over multiple tours as well as The Bay of Pigs, Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crises. Frank was awarded The Purple Heart, Rifle Expert Badge (18th Awd), Pistol Expert Badge (19th Awd), navy Commendation Medal (w/”y”), Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation (w/3*), Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation (w1*), National Defense Service Medal (w/1*), Letter of Appreciation (2nd Awd), Meritorious Service Medal (w/1*), Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (w/5*), Navy Achievement Medal, Certificate of Commendation, Good Conduct Medal (10th Awd), Civil Action Ribbon (w/ Ribbon (w/palm&frame), Sea Service Deployment ribbon, Meritorious Mast (2nd Awd), Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry (w/palm&frame), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal (w/Device).

He was involved in the West Coast Drill Instructor’s Association where he served on the Board of Directors from 2008 to 2012. Frank is preceded in death by his Father William Marcelliott and Mother Viola Johnson. Frank is survived by his beloved wife Evangeline, beloved daughters Jaylene Mogote and husband Ronilo, Lina Garcia and her husband Daniel, his loving son Gerald, Brother William Roller and Nephew Bill Roller, Sister Kaye Roller, sister Dorothy and 34 Grand and Great-Grandchildren; a “full quiver”, to say the least.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Mission Hospice, whose staff were absolute angels to Frank and his family during his hospice care, are strongly encouraged. Frank’s Family wishes to extend our sincere and heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at Balboa Military Hospital of San Diego, Mission Hospice, Dignity Memorial, those select servants from Mission Valley Christian Fellowship and Horizon Christian Fellowship Southbay who were so gracious in his final days and to Frank’s loving and devoted extended family who will forever remain at the core of his heart and the reason for his years of selfless service and sacrifice.
