Frank “Sarge” Kane, long-time Newburyport resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday March 24, 2019 after a lengthy illness. Frank was born on September 3, 1933 in Lynn, MA and attended Lynn schools. He was the son of the late Virginia (Folsom) Kane Waldron and Rollie Kane.

He was predeceased by his brother s Walter “Pete” Kane of Frederic, WI and John Kane of Auburn, ME. Frank was a member of the U.S. Army for 29 years, serving as 1st Sergeant at the National Guard Armory in Newburyport. Upon his retirement from the U.S. Army, he was employed by Continental Cablevision in Newburyport as Warehouse Manager for 20 years.

He served on the Board of Appeals in Newburyport from 1968-1976. He was a member of the Whittier School Board from 1982-1996, serving 3 years as Chairman of the Board. He was on the Board Voting Registrars from 1968-1970.

He also served on the Board of the Salvation army. He was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church for over 50 years, serving as an usher, member of the Liturgy Committee as well as the Vestry Committee. Frank is survived by his wife of 63 years Barbara (Kellett) Kane, his daughter Nancy Lazdowski and her husband Dawson of Newburyport, his son Tom Kane and his wife Maria of Sunrise, FL; his son Steve Kane of Newburyport, and his daughter Julie Kane of Lynn, MA; 7 grandchildren Nicole, Jared, Matthew, Caitlyn, Tyler, Brendan, and Emily as well as 4 great grandchildren Aubrey, Hayley, Rylee, and Jonah.

The family would like to thank the staff at Brigham Manor Nursing Home in Newburyport for their wonderful care and attention over the past 2 years, as well as the countless staff of the Anna Jaques Hospital and Merrimack Valley Hospice for their care and compassion in taking superior care of Frank. Family and friends may call on Thursday March 28, 2019 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950. Parking available behind the Funeral Home.

His Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday March 29, 2019 at St Paul’s Episcopal Church followed by burial at Belleville Cemetery, both in Newburyport.
