Frank Klobchar (Papa) 92, died at his home Saturday, May 11, 2019. Frank was born July 11, 1926 in Butte to Frank and Catherine (Stepan) Klobchar. He attended local schools until age 17, when he joined the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during WWII.

He served in the Campaign for the Philippines, on Guadalcanal and in occupied Japan after the end of World War II. He was Honorably Discharged with the rank of 1st Sergeant in 1946. Starting at an early age Frank was involved in auto repairs.

He worked at several local businesses before owning his own business (Quality Automotive) with his partner Carl Popovich. Frank married Diana Hill on June 19, 1949. Together, they raised four children, and welcomed several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He enjoyed Sunday drives through the state, fishing at Jackson, and picnics and dinners with his family. Small dogs were sure to find a warm lap to pass the time in his company. Papa ensured visitors never lacked Butte’s regional delicacies, whether pasties, pork chops or maple bars.

After Diana passed in March 2007, granddaughter Shonda Jones became a close companion and support to Frank and the remote family through the remainder of his years. Frank is survived by sons, Frank (Geani) Klobchar of Salt Lake City and John Klobchar of Las Vegas; daughters Susan (Mark) Verwest of Kennewick, Wash. , and Janet (Dan) Martin of Denver, CO.

eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sister Catherine “Katie” (Joe) Burns of Butte; sister-in-law Sandy (Bruce) Blotcamp of Missoula, and numerous nieces and nephews.
