Obituary for Frankie Lee “Butch” Harrison Jr He was born February 4th, 1942, to Oma and Frankie, Sr. in Delano, California. At age 4, Butch arrived in Yuba City where he resided the rest of his life.
Dad was an avid sportsman from the first time he held a fishing pole. He enjoyed hunting with his friends and family. He continued to hunt and fish for the majority of his life.
Frank was a 1959 graduate of YCHS Honkers. He was looking forward to his 60th class reunion which he faithfully helped organized. Frank loved to dance the Jitter Bug, cruise with his car, hang out at Andy’s Drive In and dive off the 5th Street Bridge into the ole swimming pool.
After high school, he entered into the US Army as a Private serving as a Military Police Criminal Investigator. In Germany, he met and married his wife of 56 years, Erika. He fondly referred to her as Eka.
Erika and Frank had two children, Robert Eric Harrison (Spouse, Carrie) and Susanne Lynn Harrison Burns (Spouse, Michael). Dad and Mom loved each of their spouses as their own. Always referring to Carrie as a daughter and Michael as a son.
Dad made sure we knew the value of a hard-earned dollar, how to shoot and handle any gun and live a life of honoring family. Frank earned an AA from Yuba College and an AS from University California Sacramento State. He attended several other colleges and graduated from both the Federal Bureau of Narcotic/Dangerous Drugs Academy and the FBI National Academy.
Frank’s accomplishments were vast and varied. His law enforcement service was remarkable. He served 10 years with the Yuba City Police Department as a Patrolman, Sergeant, Detective and Detective Sergeant.
As a Narcotics Officer for YCPD, Frank developed the Bi-County Narcotics Enforcement Team which continues to serve today titled Net 5. He later joined the Sutter County Sheriff’s Department in 1973-1982 as Deputy Coroner, Detective, rising through the ranks as Captain of Detectives and then Under Sheriff. Dad loved his work and worked his plan.
He was famous for saying “Prior Prevention Prevents Poor Performance”. One of the best continued education platforms Frank had was his tenure at the FBI Academy. He was recognized and certified as a Fire Arms Instructor.
His eye for a bullseye was spot on and he taught his grandchildren this art. Emily Annalise Burns (his favorite granddaughter, 26), Conner Tyson Burns, 22, Robert John Harrison, 13 and Rylee James Harrison, 7 were the apple of his eye. He made provisions to give each grandchild a car when they turned 16 and each of them loved him beyond measure.
His community accomplishments include: founding the first Credit Union for Yuba City employees, Yuba Sutter Peace Officers Association, Mother Load Investigators Association, Yuba Sutter Law Enforcement Administrators Association, California State Peace Officers Association, California State Sheriff’s Association, California Homicide Investigator’s Association, FBI National Academy Associates, Sutter Butte’s Little League, Post Kiwanis International and Post Loyal Order of the Moose. Frank is preceded in death by his sister, Cathy Harrison Zarate. He is survived by his wife, Erika; children, Susanne and Eric; eldest sister, Sharah Harrison Bokeko; his youngest sister, Elizabeth Harrison Hunter; and four grandchildren, Emily, Conner, Robbie and Rylee.
