OBITUARY Fred B. Roberson Jr. May 29, 1925 – December 17, 2018 Fred Blakley Roberson, Jr., 93, died from natural causes on December 17, 2018 at St. Joseph Manor, Bryan, Texas, with his daughter by his side. He was born May 29, 1925, in Waycross, Georgia, to Fred and Nola Roberson who referred to him as “Junior”. Fred was a veteran, having served as a midshipman in the Merchant Marines in the North Atlantic, returned home to Georgia, and then enlisted in the Army and served in the occupation of Japan.

After the occupation he attended the University of Alabama where he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering and a passion for the Crimson Tide football team. As a mechanical engineer he worked in manufacturing and food processing, eventually becoming head of engineering in the 1970s for Douglas Foods, Inc., when it was the largest chicken processing plant in the United States. He was an avid outdoorsman, a Boy Scout troop leader, and loved science fiction books and movies.

He was active in the church, helping establish Kingswood United Methodist Church in Mobile, Alabama, where he and his wife Lee started their life as newlyweds, and later serving for many years on the board of First United Methodist Church in Douglas, Georgia. When his health declined, he moved to Bryan, Texas, in 2012 to be closer to his daughter and her family and was able to live independently until entering hospice. He is survived by his daughter, Robin Roberson Murphy, grandson Allan Roberson Murphy, and sister, Doris Taft.

He will be interred in Georgia with his wife, Lee, who died in 2005. Donations to Hospice Brazos Valley can be made in his honor at the www. hospicebrazosvalley.org/donate.
