On Tuesday, January1, 2019, Fred Thomas Oliver passed away at the age of 81, in Evans, Ga. Mr. Oliver was born in 1937 in Lexington, Ky. and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1956.

He completed coursework in business management at Lexington Community College (Ky. ) and horticulture and landscaping at the University of Arkansas. He proudly served with the National Guard in Kentucky and in Arkansas for a total of 18 years, finishing with the rank of sergeant first class.

He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. The Commander of the Kentucky National Guard awarded Mr. Oliver the Kentucky Merit Ribbon. In 1989, he retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Lexington, Ky.

, as a medical supply technician supervisor. He volunteered as a chaplain with hospice in the Upper Cumberland of Tennessee and at Jamestown Regional Hospital and the Signature HealthCARE nursing home in Jamestown, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Haverly Oliver, his father Odas Thomas Oliver, and his sister Carolyn Oliver Young.

He is survived by his wife Deanna Robbert Krahulek Oliver; his daughters Renee Oliver Cecil and Karen Oliver Keys; his stepdaughters Diahan Krahulek, Kelley Nelsen, and Krista Krahulek-Sigmon; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Jan. 11, at 11 a.m., at Westover Memorial Park in Augusta, Ga.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
