Frederick Gary McDonald, 77, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2018, following a brief illness. Gary was a lifelong Rhinebeck resident and graduate of Rhinebeck High School. He served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Gary was the owner of Mac’s Agway in Red Hook. Throughout his life he gave generously to the community and was a past president (2011-2012) and member of the Rhinebeck Rotary Club; he received the Paul Harris Fellow Award in recognition of his service. Gary also served on the board of directors of Ferncliff Forest, and was a member of the Red Hook Businessmen’s Association.

Born December 6, 1941 in Rhinebeck, he was the son of Frederick McDonald (1954) and Lucille Ann (Honan) McDonald Weaver (2001). Gary was predeceased by his step father Gerald Weaver (2015). Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra (Currie) McDonald of Rhinebeck; his niece Wendi Mitchell, nephew Gary Briggs III, great nieces Kelly and Jessica, great nephew Dalton; his cousins Michael (Kathren) Greco, Sandra Bell, Brian (Maryann) McDonald, Roxanne (Joseph) Callo, Diane Erdo and Shirley Armstrong; brother-in-law Gary Briggs, II; and his cousin’s wife Linda Greco.

He was pre-deceased by his sister Bonnie Briggs (1999), and his cousin Thomas ‘Tucker’ Greco. Memorial calling hours are Thursday, 5:00 to 7:00 PM, at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck. A celebration of life and remembrance will begin at 7:00 PM.

Interment with military honors will be at the Rhinebeck Cemetery in the Spring.
