Frederick H Wheeler , April 09, 1936 — February 24, 2019

Frederick H. Wheeler Sr. “Fred” 82, most recently of Whitefield, NH, was released from his battle with dementia and recurring infections on February 24, 2019 at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative & Hospice Care in Lebanon, NH with family at his side. Fred was born in Montpelier, VT on April, 9 1936, one of 9 children born to the late Leroy and Rose (Rowell) Wheeler of Riverton,VT. Fred grew up and attended school in Riverton, working on the family farm.

He married Laura (Davis) Wheeler August 25, 1955 and they had 4 children. Fred served our country in the Marine Corps during the Korean War and as a drill sargent in California, North Carolina, and Virginia for which he received medals of distinction. After his honorable discharge, he worked as a mechanic and had dairy farms in East Barre and Lunenburg, VT.

Fred loved being busy tinkering with small appliances and making little repairs. He lived a number of years in Wilder, VT where he enjoyed retirement visiting and helping friends and neighbors, notably fellow Marine Corps veteran Richard (Dick) and his wife Elaine, home care aid Robynn, and many others too numerous to list. Fred is survived by children Rose Ellen Cormier and spouse Robert of Whitefield, NH, Deborah Johnson-Gerry and spouse Craig of Solon, ME, Frederick Wheeler Jr of Bethlehem, NH and Dianna Lynn Wheeler of NC, grandchildren Stephanie, Michael and Joshua, great-grandchildren, Katryn, Conner and Landon, siblings Rose Ola Hannigan of Barre, VT, Gladys Davis of Riverton, VT, Kenneth Wheeler of East Montpelier, VT, Linda Matheson and her husband Bruce of Northfield, VT, Susan Sears and her husband Kenneth of Northfield, VT as well as his aunt Evelyn Law of the Mayo Nursing home in Northfield, VT and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Fred was predeceased by his grandparents, Fred and Ola Wheeler, his wife Laura, sisters Roxane Maxfield and Sylvia Croteau and brother Leroy (Lee) Wheeler. He was met on the Rainbow bridge by many beloved pets. We would like to thank the staff of Jack Byrne Center for the wonderful care they provided for both Fred and his family during his final days.

A military service will be held at a date yet to be determined at the Vermont Veteran Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, Vermont. Ross Funeral Home in Littleton, NH is in charge of arrangements.
