Frederick Strefling April 15, 1945 – December 27, 2018 Share this obituary Local Florists Sign Guestbook Frederick Strefling, age 73, of Galien, died peacefully Thursday, December 27, 2018 in Three Rivers, Michigan. Fred was born April 15, 1945 in St. Joseph, Michigan to Reinhart and Anne (Kading) Strefling. He married Rose (Hackel) Strefling on November 11, 1972 in Sawyer, Michigan; she survives.

Fondly known as Sonny, he attended New Troy and Galien schools, graduating from New Port High School. Fred later worked for Bendix/Bosch as an iron pourer for 33 years until retiring in 2006. A history enthusiast he enjoyed reading about the Civil War and travelling to the battlefields with his wife Rose.

Together they travelled to sites about 15 times. Fred had a passion for animals, especially his turkeys; and was often found playing tag with them. Fred and his brother Karl farmed grain and grapes together for many years.

He was known for having a big heart for those close to him and was always willing to help those in need. Fred will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Rose (Hackel) Strefling of Galien; siblings Karl Strefling of Galien, John (Julie) Strefling of New Carlisle, Maria (Carl) Schmaltz of Pennsylvania; many nieces and nephews whom he loved as his own children; and a host of cousins and friends.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Frieda Cluster. Family and friends will gather Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Pobocik Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 106 Ash Street East, Three Oaks, Michigan 49128 and on Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Sawyer Trinity Lutheran Church, 5791 Sawyer Rd, Sawyer, MI 49125 with the Reverend Randy Lett officiating. Fred’s remains will be laid to rest in New Troy Cemetery.
