Visitation- Tuesday July 31, 2018 from 2-4:30 & 7-9:30 p.m. at our West Sayville Funeral Home, 245 Main St. Funeral Mass- Wednesday August 1, 2018 at 9:45 a.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Holbrook Interment- Calverton National Cemetery Frederick William (Bill) Uckert, Jr., a resident of Sayville and Holbrook since 1932, passed away on July 27, 2018. Bill was born in Brooklyn, NY, attended kindergarten in Hampton Bays, and moved to Sayville Blvd in 1932. He later lived in Bayport, and moved to Holbrook in 1938.

As a young man, Bill worked with his father as a milkman, raised chickens and worked at Southside Sportsmen’s Club (now Connetquot State Park). Mr. Uckert attended Sayville Grammar School and graduated from Sayville High School Class of 1943. He enlisted in the Navy at Brooklyn Navy Yard and did his tour in the South Pacific until the end of World War II.

After the war, Bill worked for Republic before beginning his aerospace career as a design engineer with Wheeler Lab in Smithtown, then moved on to Hazeltine Corp where he retired in 1988. Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Emely, his children Col (USAF, Ret. ) Merri Uckert, of Virginia, Brian, of New York City, Kevin, and his wife Linda, of New Jersey, Colin, and his wife Cindy, of Virginia, and Kathleen Uckert, of New York City, his grandchildren, Kaitlyn Breiner, and her husband Tyler, Kyle, and his wife Kate, Thomas, Ryan, and Kristin, and his great grandchild Dylan; his sister Karol Adams, and her husband Jon, and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Uckert was predeceased by his parents Frederick Sr. and Margaret Uckert, and his sisters Marjorie Vitalone and Anna Frederick. Bill’s devotion to his country and his family will live on and he will be sorely missed.
