Fredrick Douglas McCormick, Jr. made the transition from his earthly vessel after an extended illness on August 26, 2018 at Autumn Care Health and Rehabilitation Facility, Raeford NC. On August 25, 1947, Fred was the first-born child to the late Fredrick Douglas and Autra Lee McCormick, in their home located in Duffie community of Hoke County, North Carolina. The Hoke County school system provided the ground work for his formative education, whereby he graduated from Upchurch High School in Raeford, NC.

Fred was inducted into the United States Army August 27, 1969, where he served active duty in Vietnam, Fort Bragg and Fort Devens, MA. After leaving active duty, he transferred to North Carolina National Guard in Red Springs, NC. He was awarded the National Defense Service Metal, Vietnam Service Medal, Sharp Shooter Badge, and Expert Badge with M-16 rifle.

After leaving the military, he trained as a barber, brick mason and farmer. Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching old westerns. He received salvation and baptism at McCormick Chapel Baptist Church in Red Springs, NC at a very early age and remained a member until death.

Fred leaves many memories to be cherished by family and friends. He leaves his loving wife, Mary Elizabeth of Red Springs, NC; children, Jessica (John) Underwood, Matthew Hopps both of Boston, MA; Kevin (Crystal) McCormick of Red Springs, NC; Madelyn “Sange” (Dwayne) Wikes of Red Springs; NC; Vincent (Toni) Jones of Goldsboro, NC; Tracy Jenkins (Darrel) of Ridgeland, SC; Teresa Jones of Red Springs, NC; Ricky (Shalonda) Thompson of Mansfield, TX; Mack Wertz of Raleigh, NC; Marc (Maria) Wertz of Shannon, NC. Also to mourn his passing: sisters, Carolyn Brooks of Oxen Hill, MD; Cordelia (Jay) Clark of Hoffman, NC; Genevieve (Morris) Lamberth of Greensboro, NC; Shearon McCormick of Burtonsville, MD; Priscilla (Herman) McGill of Fayetteville, NC; parental uncle, James McCormick of Laurinburg, NC; twenty-two grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
