Obituary for Fredrick George “Rick” Marzolf NORTHEAST HARBOR – Fredrick “Rick” George Marzolf, 64, passed away peacefully with family and friends by his side November 30, 2018 at a Bangor Hospital. Rick was born October 15, 1954 in Hawthorne, Nevada. He was the son of Fredrick F. Marzolf and Frances T. (McIntee) Marzolf.
Rick graduated from Bucksport High School, class of 1973. He then graduated from SMVTI with a degree in culinary arts. Following graduation, Rick spent most of his career as a Chief Steward on ships that traveled the world.
He always had lots of stories to tell about the various ports of call that he visited and the people he met. When he decided to end his maritime career and stay on shore, he worked at restaurants in Castine, Bangor, and Northeast Harbor. Rick always enjoyed a good cup of coffee and loved to talk with everyone.
Rick spent many years as an active volunteer with the Castine Fire Department. He especially enjoyed the 4th of July parade and fireworks with the Castine Fire Department. He was a Red Sox and Patriots fan, and in later years, a NASCAR fan.
He loved doing crossword puzzles in ink, read voraciously, enjoyed John Wayne movies, and the History channel. Rick enjoyed his family, and was very proud of his niece, nephews, and great nephews. He also enjoyed his extended family and could be counted on to bring favorite foods to family gatherings.
Rick was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Marzolf; brother, Michael and wife, Judy; niece, Jennifer Marzolf; nephews, Christopher and wife, Carrie Marzolf, and Jeff Howard; two great nephews, Gradyn and Landon.
