Gary L. Noftsger, 78, of Altoona, Iowa, passed unexpectedly in Kyle, Texas on Thursday, Feb. 28, from complications of cardiac arrest. Services will be held Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow the service at the Gosport Cemetery near Knoxville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Wildlife Federation. www.

nwf.org/ Gary was born June 29, 1941 in Lucas County (Chariton), Iowa to Fern (Bingham) and William Noftsger. He grew up on a farm near Melcher-Dallas and graduated from Melcher-Dallas High School. Gary was married to Barbara (Steinbach) for 45 years.

Of this union, he had two daughters, Pam & Kathy. Gary didn’t know a stranger and was a jokester who loved to make people laugh and smile. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman for the majority of his life.

He found great happiness being in the wilderness. In his retirement years, he learned to golf. Many will remember his recent years with his award-winning ’57 Chevy Bel Aire.

In his later years, he enjoyed traveling and going to car shows with his loving companion, Doris. From the moment each was born, Gary’s four grandchildren were his greatest joy. He loved spending time with them and his daughters, especially for the annual family domino tournament.

“We will forever miss you, Papa Bear”. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Marvin. He is survived by his daughters, Pam Scarpino of Kansas City, MO and Kathy Fox (David) of Henderson, NV; his grandchildren Anthony (Amber), Emily, Samantha (Pharris), and Elizabeth; and his companion, Doris Hamilton, of Lockhart, TX.
