Lawing, age 81, of Peculiar, Missouri, passed away on Saturday January 12, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. A Visitation Service will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2019 with a Funeral Service to follow at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. A private family burial will take place following the services at the Peculiar Cemetery, Peculiar, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Mid America Chapter, 7611 State Line, Suite 100 Kansas City, Missouri 64114. Gary was born on March 10, 1937 in Ozark, Missouri. He was the son of Samuel J. Lawing and Claudia Opal.

Gary was one of three children including Jonita and Gayle. After high school, Gary served his country in the United State Naval Reserves. In the summer of 1958, Gary was joined in marriage with Jean K. French on June 6th.

Together they were blessed with two children, Pam and Kerry. Gary made a twenty-seven-year career in working for Firestone-Bridgestone, ultimately retiring as a store manager. Aside from building his career and providing for his family, Gary was a member of the First Baptist Church of Peculiar.

He enjoyed things like traveling, camping, reading and gardening. For 34 years he volunteered for the MS Society support group of Cass County. Above all, Gary’s life led him to be an amazing grandfather and great grandfather.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel J. and Claudia O. Lawing; and grandson, Alan Lawing. He is survived by his loving wife of over 62 years, Jean K. Lawing; daughter, Pam Herrington (William); son Kerry Lawing (Terri); two sister Jonita Teghtnyer and Gayle Edwards (Eddie); seven grandchildren, Gretchen Ortiz (Cupe), Kyle Herrington (Rachel), Weston Herrington (Emily), Melina Herrington, Bradley Lawing, Kristan Gutierrez (David), and Jordan Galland; and nine great grandchildren. Arrangements: Cullen Funeral Home, Raymore, Missouri 816.
