OBITUARY Gene Card December 7, 1932 – January 21, 2019 Sherman Eugene “Gene” Card, 86, of Waynesboro died on January, 21, 2019. Born December 7, 1932 in Woodhull, New York he was the son of the late Gerald and Eva Card. Mr. Card served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1949 to 1951 and was awarded a Purple Heart.

He lived in Washington, D.C. and worked as a meat cutter at Swift and Company. It was there that he met Mary Susan Armstrong and they were married on November 26, 1959. In 1962 Gene began working at the commissary at Andrews Air Force Base as a Meat Manager.

In addition, he worked part time at A&P in the Meat Department. He was a member of VFW Post #8950 and a past commander of American Legion Post 172 in Lanham, MD. In 2001, Gene and Mary retired in Waynesboro, VA.

Gene is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Mary Sue (Armstrong) Card; three daughters, Dianne Yohe (Patrick) of Davidsonville, MD, Karen Card of Staunton, VA and Susan Card (Jim Dorscher) of Eagle River, AK; he was proud of his six grandchildren, Susan Harrison (Markell), Rebekah Yohe (Daniel Lawrence), Shane McCauley, Ryan McCauley (Arianna Starr), David Yohe and Jacob Johnson; and one great granddaughter, Malinda Harrison. Gene is also survived by six brothers and sisters Edith Eldridge, Marie Monroe, Vivian Wilson (Marvin), Dick Card (Diane), Bill Card (Martha) and Lydia Card. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2019 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.

A celebration of life service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Tim Bohlmann officiating. Burial will take place in Lakemont Memorial Gardens, Davidsonville, MD at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 28, 2019 with Deaconess Sally Hiller officiating.
