A homegoing celebration for Mrs. Geneva Smith Lloyd of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2018 will be held on Saturday, December 1st, 11:00 a.m. at New Mt. Zion M.B. Church Tampa, FL 33605, Rev. Larry Roundtree II, officiating.

The interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. On June 26, 1933, the picturesque and tranquil settlement of Stuart Manor, Exuma came alive to the sounds of a beautiful baby girl named, Geneva. “Gee,” as she was affectionately called, was the oldest of four children (two girls and two boys), born to James and Ethel Clarke-Smith (both deceased).

Gee received her education at The Rokers Point All Age School. As was the custom in those days, she left school at an early age. Being an industrious and striving individual, she relocated to New Providence to seek employment.

While in New Providence she connected with her life-long partner, Cecil Lloyd Sr. The union became the proud parents of Geletha, Willis, William, Janita, Annette, Susan, Cecil Jr. and Edward. Geneva was a dedicated and loving mother who worked tirelessly to ensure that her children were educated and cared for. Together, she and Cecil built a happy home, raising their children in the nurture and admonition of God.

They were all taught to pursue excellence in everything, having the expression, “If a job is worth doing, it is worth doing well,” often being repeated in their hearing. That was their motto. Geneva began her employment with Ms. Cole at The Pepsi Cola Company and later she was employed with The French Family until her retirement.

While in Nassau, Gee was a dedicated member of The Mt. Carey Union Baptist Church; where she served on The Usher Board, The Missionary Society and sang a melodious tenor in the Senior Choir and The Bahamas Baptist Union Choir. She was a member of The Bahamas Mothers’ Club in Fox Hill and also a member of The International Free and Accepted Modern Mason Order of The Eastern Star Lois Chapter #13 for over 40 years.

Upon retirement, Geneva and her husband Cecil, relocated to Tampa, Florida. Gee’s moving to Florida did not stop her active involvement in church activities. She was a dedicated member of the New Mt Zion Baptist Church in Tampa; she was a member of the Usher Board and often attended two Sunday morning service, until her health began to fail her.

Geneva fought valiantly to the end, often saying, ‘Ride out your storm,” ‘I am not gonna give up,” and “I am in the hand of the Master”. Geneva has conquered her storm. She has fought the good fight, she has finished the course and has kept the faith; her crown of righteousness awaits her.
