Genevieve Vivian Mount, 94, of Vermillion, SD passed away Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Dakota Gardens Assisted Living in Vermillion. Genevieve Vivian (Brunick) Mount was born on August 8, 1923 to Lewis and Lillian (Brown) Brunick in Vermillion, SD. She attended rural country school in the area.

On October 5, 1940 Vivian was united in marriage to Harvey Emil Mount in Vermillion. They were together 50 years until Harvey’s passing on December 21, 1990. She was a long time member of Pleasant… Read More » Valley Lutheran Church, as well as an active member of the women’s group.

Vi enjoyed being a farm wife and began employment at the Vermillion Civic Council at the age of 60, retiring after 23 years there. She loved to crochet, attend Red Hat activities, had an impressive chicken collection and enjoyed her weekly Tuesday lunches with cousins and Thursday lunches with past co-workers. Vivian liked to garden, fish, attended bingo, and played in a bluff neighbor card club – but she was up for a game of cards anytime.

Vivian will always be remembered for her delicious homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, apple bars, sugar cookies and Halloween popcorn balls. She was at her happiest busy cooking while surrounded by her family at holidays or whenever they were gathered for big family meals. Family was important to Vi; she never missed the Annual Brown Family Picnic held in Vermillion, attending for over 65 years.

Grateful for having shared in Vi’s life: her three sons: Gary (Pat) Mount of Wakonda, SD, William “Bill” (Karen) Mount of Yankton, SD and Brian (Janet) Mount of Meckling, SD; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Mount of Platte, SD; 14 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Emil Mount, Sr.; three children: Larry Mount (in infancy), Sylvia Freeburg and Harvey Mount, Jr.; a great grandson, Cortez Castillo; her parents, Lewis and Lillian; three sisters: Janice, Sarah “Sal” and Florence; and seven brothers: Bernt “Bubby”, Robert, Clifton, Homer, Marvin, Lewis “Marion” and Wayne.
