Obituary for George Eckmann George Franklin Eckmann, 87, of Mays Landing passed peacefully at 4:50am on August 30, 2018 at Our Lady’s Home in Pleasantville, NJ. George was born in Altoona, Pa. on June 17, 1931 to Anna Marie Eckmann (nee Schneider) and Frank Xavier Eckmann.

He was raised in Altoona, attending St. Mary’s School and then Altoona High School. He met the love of his life, Phyllis Ann Scardino, in Altoona and they married at St. John’s Catholic Church in Lakemont, Pa. on April 14, 1952.

He lost Phyllis on March 6, 2008 and remained a widower these past ten years. George enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1950 becoming an Electronic Counter Measure Technician. He was stationed at the Hunter Air Force Base in Savannah, Ga.

He also did temporary duty in Royston, England. While stationed there he traveled to Scotland and Germany. George attained the rank of Sergeant in 1953.

After an Honorable Discharge from the US Air Force in 1954 and having received a Good Conduct Medal and a National Defense Service Medal he entered the working world. George worked as a stock broker, salesman, and worked for RCA in Camden, NJ, as well as other endeavors before settling in the US Post Office where he remained until his retirement in 1976. George is survived by his three children and their families: George Franklin Eckmann Jr. and his wife, Connie Prisco Eckmann, his grandchildren Lenore Eckmann and Graham Eckmann.

Angela Williams, his grandchild Edward Williams, his wife, Nicole and his great-grandchild, Ellora. Jessica Cornish, her husband, Stephen, his grandchildren, Stephen, Allison, and Caitlyn. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 4, at 1 PM, at Calvary Cemetery, 2398 Route 70, Cherry Hill.
