Obituary for George Fuller Cridlin George Fuller Cridlin, 71, of Jonesville, Va. , passed away on Friday, Dec. 14, 2018 in Durham, N.C. A lifelong resident of Southwest Virginia, George spent more than four decades in private practice as an attorney, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, and served 33 years as the attorney for the town of Jonesville.

He was also chairman of the board of directors of Powell Valley National Bank, helping lead its ex¬pansion in Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee. A 1965 graduate of Jonesville High School, where he was a student leader and athlete, George graduated from Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn. There he met a young woman from Florida named Karen, who would become his wife of 47 years.

They lived for stretches in her hometown of Belle Glade, Fla. , where they were married; Richmond, where he graduated from the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond; and Colorado Springs, where he served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the Vietnam War; before returning to Jonesville. George was active in many civic organizations and community institutions, including Jonesville First United Methodist Church, the Jonesville Town Council, the Lions Club and the Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority.

He was an avid lover and supporter of local sports; an aficionado of autos, antiques and community history; and above all a lover of people. He was curious and generous, a man who formed fast and long-lasting friendships with strangers, as comfortable with coal miners and mechanics as senators and governors. Every day of his life, he lived to be out and involved in his community.

George passed peacefully at the Duke Cancer Institute in Durham, N.C., Karen by his side. His family is humbled and grateful for the many prayers and kind thoughts sent their way. George and Karen had two sons: Jay, a journalist in St. Petersburg, Fla.

; and Fuller, who is the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Lee County. He is also survived by Jay’s wife, Shelley, and their children, Josie and Cameron; Fuller’s wife, Jalan; and a sister, Josephine Roddenberry. He was preceded in death by his parents, Judge Joseph N. and Fay Cridlin.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Jonesville First United Methodist Church, 100 Church St., Jonesville. The funeral service will be held at the church at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec.
