OBITUARY George Leroy Jensen May 3, 1928 – December 11, 2018 George Leroy Jensen, 90, of West Des Moines, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Iowa Methodist in Des Moines, surrounded by his loving family. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. A visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, December 16, 2018 at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines with a rosary service at 7 p.m. George was born May 3, 1928 in Valley Junction, Iowa to James and Dagmar (Rasmussen) Jensen.

As a child, he enjoyed his family fishing trips to Minnesota, and passed this tradition on to his own family. He was in the graduating class of 1946 at Valley High School and went on to attend classes at Grandview College. George worked for the West Des Moines Post office as a letter carrier and retired after 30 years.

Before his retirement, he volunteered for the Auxiliary Police, and into retirement, he volunteered at the food pantry and WDM Human Services. George received the State Volunteer Award for his 20 years of volunteering for the human services. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Knights of Columbus, and the National Association of Letter Carriers.

George can be credited for helping start the first Babe Ruth West Des Moines, Iowa Little League Program, and later went on to coach girls softball once his daughters were old enough to play. In his free time, he enjoyed golf, cheering on the Cyclones, and enjoyed a nice half cup of milk with cookies. It can be said his true passion in life were his grandkids, great-grandkids, and grand-dogs.

He loved nothing more than to watch them grow and succeed. George is survived by the love of his life of 66 years, Dorothy; daughters, Mary (Mike) Ramsey and Cathy (Jeff) Filling; grandchildren, Brian (Karie) Ramsey, Julie (Rick) Stundins, Jake Filling, Stephanie (Jeremy) Allen, Benji (Stephanie) Filling and Steve (Mariel) Ramsey; and great-grandchildren, Blake and Bailie Ramsey; Reese, Riley, and Ricky Stundins; Delaney, Macey, and Jadyn Filling; Caleigh and Camren Allen; Mackenzie and Max Filling; and Jase and Jaxon Ramsey. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, William; and siblings, Marie White, Niels Jensen, Esther Burroughs, James Jensen, and Barbara Baker.
